Welcome to the Durham CARES Mentor Registry! Our registry is a comprehensive database designed to collect and maintain information about volunteers and their skills, with the aim of connecting them to youth-serving organizations in the Durham area. We understand the importance of efficiently matching volunteers with appropriate opportunities. The registry captures essential details, including education, professional experience, certifications, and specific areas of interest. Regular updates and verification processes ensure the accuracy and currency of the data. Join us in making a difference in the lives of Durham's youth by becoming a part of the Durham CARES Mentor Registry!
The Rising is our signature initiative, designed to prepare children in high-poverty families to succeed in school and life. The pioneering, community-mobilization movement, created by subject-matter experts, aims to propel Black children from impoverishment to independence.
The overall goal of The Rising is to transform the lives of young people by encircling them with caring adults who are trained to deliver a transformational healing curriculum that challenges and affirms, encourages, and inspires. The curriculum is rooted in prevention and teaches principles, practices and other support efforts that provide coping and other mechanisms needed to mitigate the impact of the disparities and dysfunction ruining young lives. Integral to the program is the cultivation of cultural pride and high self-esteem, the development of critical-thinking and literacy skills, workforce development and soft “power” skills, and a love for learning and high achievement.
Durham CARES Mentoring recognizes the abundance of youth-serving organizations in our community and the desire of individuals to make a positive impact. That's why we have established a specialized registry of youth-serving organizations that are actively seeking minority mentors and facilitators. If you are a youth service organization in need of dedicated and trained minority mentors to connect with your youth, we are here to assist you.
